Earlier in the month we had the honour of meeting and allowing an ex RAAF WW2 Veteran the chance to start the Dakota’s engines.
Wally Dalitz (93) an ex Beaufort pilot for the RAAF told us lots of great stories about his history and flying these fantastic aircraft.
Wally accepted our offer to start the engines and with very little assistance he started and carried out power checks on both engines of C-47 Dakota 43-48234. This brought back lots of memories and one comment he did make was the C-47 was more complex to start than the Beaufort.
Dave and the team loved the opportunity to do this and the smiles on all faces needed explanation.
